World Mental Health Day!! “Mental Health in an Unequal World”
Health is a state of complete physical, MENTAL and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease &infirmity. “There is NO Health without Mental Health.” Mental Health includes the person’s emotional, psychological & social well-being. Also, mental health is a state of well-being where the individual identifies and cope up with the day to day life stress or any different stressful events such as work stress, family or relationship issues, financial crisis, loss of loved ones and so on., encourages themselves to stay positive by handling all negative events.
BRAIN is an amazing organ controlling all the functions of the body. Billions of neurons communicate each other to maintain body function through electrical signals. Brain chemicals called neurotransmitters are responsible for all the brain functions. Most of the research have shown that the main reason for a person to become mentally ill due to the imbalance taking place in the brain chemicals ie., neurotransmitters, leading to changes in how people think, feel and behave. There are other specific psychological, Genetic and personality factors making people vulnerable to mental health problems.
There are still stigma pertaining towards mental health disorders. Nearly 70- 80% of those people suffering from mental illness do not seek treatment for years. Before COVID 19, one in seven Indians were affected from mental illness, the rate has been seriously increasing during this pandemic. The priority for mental health among people is been emphasized among the young and older ones. Education and livelihood opportunities is been affected.
Many survey results has shown that the rate of suicide, anxiety and depression is high among people during COVID19 pandemic. Mental Health is the integral part in the overall wellbeing. Let’s break out the stigma and rule out the mental health needs among ourselves and our loved ones. Cost effective and affordable treatments are key interventions for preventing and treating mental illness.
